Connecticut
Saturday May 29, 2010
Instead of staying in Chicago for the whole weekend I decided a few days ago to change my flight and head over to Connecticut to surprise my family for the remainder of the weekend. The only person who knew I was coming was my niece Nikki and that is only because I wanted to make sure she came down from Boston for the whole time so I let her in on my secret. I rented a car at the airport and drove out to my brother’s place in the country. Connecticut is a small ass state and a lot of it feels like “country” to me now that I live in Southern California, so it’s always a nice change of pace to get out there and really just enjoy the greenery and the quiet. This is my brother’s driveway.
Ann Marie, Nikki’s bf Rob and my brother Pete.
We are seriously switching gears for dinner tonight…nothing beats a steak on an open flame with just some salt and pepper.
The basics: baked beans, corn on the cob and salad.
We sat out by the fire for hours just enjoying each other’s company and catching up. As much as I love living in San Diego it’s tough for me to be away from my family sometimes. A few weeks ago I told you about a quote my Dad used to say all the time and now is exactly when he would have said it: “I wonder what the poor people are doing.”

i miss you already
