I got a new tshirt in the mail from a Mommy blogger named Aunt Becky. Her site is pretty awesome. I follow her on Twitter and saw that she was selling these funny shirts so I bought one in fuschia and black.

Danny was in town so we called Shipyard Jeff up and went to eat downtown at my favorite sushi bar Taka. It bums me out that they use that fake crab shit in their rolls, but the uni and the toro are the best in town and the Special Battera roll is out of this world so I continue to go there.

IMG00093-20100814-2154

I told myself that I was not going to go out at all this weekend but somehow we ended up at Quality Social doing shot after shot of Jameson chased with homemade pickle brine. Danny had read about it on my blog and since he loves Jameson, we decided to go in for “just one.” We stood in line for about 10 or 15 minutes (despite my attempt at getting in by name dropping lol. Congrats to my friends who own it!) when finally someone grabbed us along with a group of other people and led us into a doorway around the corner and in through the back storage closet. It was so weird!

Nice face, Jeff.

IMG_3366

I have said this before, I don’t even like brown liquor (except Captain Morgan rum) but the pickle juice just neutralizes and cancels out any of the ickyness of the Jameson. You slam the shot of Jameson and then immediately you slam the decliously salty pickle juice. It is heaven on earth.

IMG_3362

Jeff did not like it all but Danny and I had about 4 shots in 15 minutes.

The moral of the story is when you slam 4 shots of Jameson in that short of time, you black out. I don’t remember stopping off at the Chee Chee and I don’t remember eating that sandwich that was in my fridge. I thought the ghost that kept eating the tangerines and leaving the peels in my sink was back.

Baby Squid and Passwords

Wednesday April 14, 2010

I have the wireless internet password written on a piece of paper somewhere in my loft and of course I cannot find it anywhere. This has happened at least three times in the last 2 years where I need Chris to come over and reboot my wireless router and it frustrates the hell out of me every time. You would think I would make it be the same password for everything else in my life but that makes way too much sense. It is probably stored in a document on my old laptop but, yeah, that’s not really working out for me either. Chris and I had made plans to have dinner so I was going to make sure he came over afterwards to deal with this horseshit process yet again.

I was meeting Mike Romero for lunch today at the Waterfront at 2pm and it took me forever to get my shit together and actually make it on time. The first part of the struggle of my day was mooching for quarters in my neighborhood for my housekeeper to do my laundry… while dressed in sweats. Classy.

Most of my experiences at the Waterfront were in the late 90′s or early 2000′s and occured at around 7 or 8 am and did not involve food. I haven’t been here in a long time and I was pretty excited to order the bacon cheeseburger.

IMG00122-20100414-1420

The best part about the Waterfront is the proximity of it to the airport… Andrea joined us after getting off her flight from Vegas! We stayed for another 2 drinks after lunch and were just in time for them to start serving deep fried hotdogs for their happy hour. The weird thing is that I actually hate corn dogs…but these were pretty decent. And I normally don’t like deep fried anything. Maybe it really is the cornbread part of corn dogs that I hate.

IMG_2556

I had my laptop with me so I went to Tivoli in hopes of stealing someone’s wireless for a few hours to update my blog while I waited for Chris, Rich and Kim to meet me at Taka for dinner. (I was dying for sushi and was obviously craving my favorite spots in SD) No internet but I was able to catch up on the sifting through the thousands of vacation photos you have seen.

Dinner was fantastic as usual… sake bombs, fresh fish and the best roll in all of San Diego: the Special Battera roll.

IMG00126-20100414-2011

Baby squid. Mmmmm not so much. The bellies squirted a little creamy stuff in my mouth and the eyeballs and tentacles were just a little too much for me. I choked a few down (trying to be cool in front of Chris) and then decided I didn’t want to vom at the table so I quit.

IMG00127-20100414-2014

When we got back to my house I had the bright idea of writing the wireless internet password in permanent marker on my cupboard.

IMG00129-20100415-1051

I did not realize I had done this til morning.

Swenz and The Real Lisa Ann

Friday 2.19.2010

Lisa Ann was in the office today for a meeting and Nikki Benz and Puma Swede were scheduled for webcam. We had coordinated the whole thing so that the three of them and Lauren and I could go tear up San Diego after their day was over. They all stayed at the Se Hotel (the place is sexy and fun despite that Sunday morning that the bartender pissed me off so bad.) After work while Nikki and Puma were still stuck doing their live shows, Lisa Ann, Lauren, Baker and Erin met up at Bareback for happy hour. Lisa’s friend Joy was also in town and her other friend John who is a sommelier for a vineyard in Northern CA. I am such a dickhead that I lost his card in the last 5 days. I will have to get his info from Lisa Ann because he invited me to a really cool event in Sacramento and I need to see my friends that live up there anyways….

Here is Lisa Ann posing with a famous downtown character that we affectionately call “The Chief.” He was actually on my Twitter/Photo/Scavenger Hunt list last year on my birthday.  He appears to be Native American Indian and he never wears a shirt, no matter what time of the year it is. Tonight he was sporting the Mexican wrestling mask. This is a new look for him. Perhaps he had a zit he was trying to hide.

IMG_1455

Ok so happy hour turned into sushi at Taka… we were so hungry and buzzed that I totally forgot to take pics of the food. But it doesn’t really matter because I eat there like every 3 weeks now and order the same fucking thing. Uni, Special Battera roll, Special Eel roll, toro… etc… I would love to know what is so funny is this picture.

IMG_1456

I also would love to know what she is sassing Baker about. Again, Baker proclaimed that this was one of the best meals of his life. I am proud to say that I am truly teaching this heathen how to live. He had never had toro before. I am happy to be responsible for this.

Joy

IMG_1458

…and then we trekked over to the Se to meet up with The Swenz. You can sound it out and figure out with minimal effort that that is Swede and Benz. When they are out together causing havoc you have Swenz.

It’s amazing how tall she really is. Baker is almost 6 foot 6.

IMG_1468

They are only mildly harassing me at this point in the evening.

IMG_1471

And here still yet, it’s fun to be around them. In fact, I invited Nikki to sit on my lap for a funny picture as if she is giving me a lap dance. Lisa Ann is always behaved and dignified.

IMG_1473

Where the hell was Lauren ?

IMG_1474

This guy was awesome. He was a Borat sort of looking character… we thought he was a mime because he was dancing around and not speaking. It was bizarre. I will have a gram of whatever he is having please!

James and Lauren

IMG_1476

Swenz is still relatively behaved.

IMG_1482

And then a little rougher. You should see the shit on their cameras. I am fighting with all of my might to keep my shirt on. Explain to me why I hang out with them? They had a $100 bet with someone that they could lick my nipple. Hahaha!

IMG_1483

Swedish Fish, of course.

IMG_1488

Puma makes the most awesome faces! Love it

IMG_1489

And this photo is in honor of my niece who went to the hospital once when she was 5 for sticking a bean up her nose.

IMG_1487

Baker was too drunk to drive so we took a cab back to my loft and I made him stay the night on the sofa. We cranked the music for a while (neighbors are still gone!) and in the morning he woke up utterly confused and told someone later that he thought he woke up at Target. I laughed all day when I heard that one. My loft is like Target and Michaels on mushrooms.

Alicia’s Birthday and a Sunday Funday

Saturday 1.2.10 and Sunday 1.3.10

On Saturday night we celebrated Alicia’s 39th birthday at Taka Sushi downtown. Taka has some of the best raw fish in San Diego and it is Alicia’s favorite place to eat it. We indulged in the lobster dynamite

IMG_0362

and a giant platter of delicious yumminess

IMG_0364

worthy of mention is the second roll from the top/left called the Special Battera roll which is to die for despite the fact that they use that imitation crab stuff. I also love the uni here…sea urchin… I can always count on it to be perfect and never scary. I have a new love affair with sea urchin after Chris had me try it here one night a few years ago. (I do not, however, have the same love affair with ankimo, the other shit he made me try)

After dinner and a bunch of sake and beer we trekked over to Tivoli (wow, I really am a creature of habit) where we ran into the most interesting man in the world.

IMG_0365

Here are 4 old friends who used to work in the stupid photo lab at Long’s Drugs many moons ago and our little eskimo friend Sandee on the right.

IMG_0368

We went to East Village Tavern to do some bowling…. Is she not the cutest thing ever in her socks and bowling shoes?

IMG_0370

I personally hate bowling because one time when I was about 10 years old I got a 2. That’s right. TWO. I opted to sit on the bench and chat with Jarin and Jason, my other downtown rat friends. A good time was had by all.

On Sunday morning, Carly Parker took the train down to visit and we went to brunch at Baja Betty’s in Hillcrest. Tommy met up with us and later we went to Red Pearl Kitchen downtown where Carly ordered dessert in the middle of dinner and then refused to share with any of us. Rude.

IMG_0377

RPK has a bunch of Asian style tapas and we pigged out…. I had to get the fried rice with bacon in it.

IMG_0378

We ordered wine (half price on Sundays! bonus!) and then took cabs up to Hillcrest so we could gay it up some more in preparation for our project. At that point Carly was a wee bit too drunk to be out in pulic so I took her home and put her to bed.

IMG_0384

Oh, but I didn’t stay with her, it was early… I took a cab back to Urban Mo’s and continued the evening :) Here I am about to inject a giant syringe of nasty Jell-O shot. puke.

bar hopping during the week = disaster

Tuesday 12.29.09 – Wednesday 12.30.09

I had dinner at Taka Sushi with 714 who is moving to 619 in a few weeks. I have known this guy for many years and hadn’t seen him in a while so it was nice to catch up with him and of course with dinner came lots of sake and turned into a pub crawl. Star Bar, Bareback and what night wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the Chee-Chee. I know the bartender Jessica at the Chee-Chee and every time I go in there now she introduces me to one of my new neighbors. Jessica used to work for Naughty America and I ran into her a few months ago in North Park and she is now my neighborhood bartender. It’s quite a co-ink-ee-dink. I went into work late on Wednesday and I am so ticked off that I missed the 5.9 earthquake! Sandee brought me a plate of leftover pork from her Christmas dinner. I can never get enough pig in my life.

IMG_0318

After work I met Jarin and Dusty at the Star Bar (yes, again). I always laugh when I go in there and see the bottles with Sharpie prices on them. Notice how cheap they are!

IMG_0321

IMG_0323

In other news…. I am beyond excited about the resurrection of our gay porn site Suite 703 in a few weeks. We have been working furiously on getting it back up and running and we are so close to the relaunch. I absolutely love love love watching gay porn, and I get all tingly down there when I see two hot guys making out and going at it. There is a project within this project which is FORCING me to hang out in Hillcrest and bar hop and try to find the right person for the job we are creating. I can’t get into details just yet, but it’s going to be awesome and Tommy and I have been spending an enormous amount of time together working on it. I can’t believe I get paid to do this job sometimes.

On Wednesday evening we hit Fiesta Cantina, Urban Mo’s and Bourbon Street. We have a lot of leads of potential people but nothing concrete yet. The only thing that is concrete is the feeling of getting hit in the head with concrete when I woke up after drinking on a school night. UGH. 2 nights in a row and now New Year’s Eve/Day is coming up. oh boy.
